Subject: DON'T MAKE ME GO TO BED AND I'LL BE GOOD
DON'T MAKE ME GO TO BED
Recorded by Roy Acuff
Words and music by Hugh Cross
CAPO: 1st FRET KEY: Eb PLAY: D
A [D] laughing baby boy one [G] evening in his play
[A7] Disturbed the household with his noisy [D] glee
I warned him to be [D7] quiet but he [G] soon would disobey
For [A7] he would soon forget a word from [D] me
I called him to my side and said, "Now son you go to bed
Your conduct has been very, very rude"
With quivering lips and tear filled eyes he pleaded then with me
"Don't Make Me Go To Bed And I'll Be Good."
CHORUS
[D] Don't Papa and I'll be [A7] good
Don't Papa and I'll be [D] good"
That's what I heard him [D7] say and it [G] haunts me night and day
"Don't [A7] Make Me Go To Bed And I'll Be [D] Good."
Our lives have just been gladdened by his bright ascending beam
Our boy now in our hearts was very dear
We hastened to his bed one night he was talking in his sleep
He didn't seem to know that we were near.
I took him in my arms and found his body "raked" with pain
To ease the pain we did the best we could
It broke my heart to hear him cryin' loudly in his sleep
"Don't Make Me Go To Bed And I'll Be Good."
All night and day we watched and prayed, we never left his side
To give him up it seemed we never could
It broke my heart to hear him crying just before he died
"Don't Make Me Go To Bed And I'll Be Good."
CHORUS

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official ACUFF ROY tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
