How Could I Be Wrong
Track 7 - 'New Wave'
Tabbed by Ben Hollis
This should be pretty
Accurate, I'm not
Certain it should be
Played with a capo
But it makes the song
A lot easier to play.
I've written the chords
As played with the capo
At the third fret – i.e.
The song is in Cm, but
You play Am
(except in the solo where
I’ve used normal fret
Numbers for simplicity)
For D5 (or Dm) use:
G—-x
D—-3
Bb-2
F--0
C--x
G—-x
Capo third fret
Intro (8 bars)
Am Am D5 F
Am Am D5 E
Verse (8 bars)
Am Am D5 F
Am Am D5 E
Pre-Chorus (8 bars)
Play this four bar sequence
through twice
C E/B A5 G
G--------------------------
D--------------------------
Bb-----0-----1-----2-----0-
F—---2-----2-----2-----2---
C—-3-----2-----0-----------
G--------------------3-----
F E
G-----------1-------------0
D---------1---1-----------0
Bb------2-------2-------1-1
F-----3---------------2---2
C---3---------------2-----2
G—1---------------0-------0
I'm not 100 percent certain
About that G chord, but
There are only so many
Chords you can put into a
Descending chord sequence
Between A and F
Chorus (8 bars)
F Am F E (x2)
Solo (8 bars)
Am Am D5 F
Am Am D5 E
D-15b-15b-15b--15-13-12
D-15b-15b-15b--17
The lead line can be played
Entirely on the D string,
I'm not sure how you get that
Sound of the note breaking up
When you bend it (is it just
Mr Haines' guitar setup?)
but you can get fairly close.
The whole song goes:
Intro (8 bars)
Am Am D5 F
Am Am D5 E
Verse (8 bars)
Am Am D5 F
Am Am D5 E
Pre-Chorus (8 bars)
C E/B A G F E (x2)
Chorus (8 bars)
F Am F E (x2)
Solo (8 bars)
Am Am D5 F
Am Am D5 E
Verse (8 bars)
Am Am D5 F
Am Am D5 E
Pre-Chorus (8 bars)
C E/B A G F E (x2)
Chorus (8 bars)
F Am F E (x2)
Solo (8 bars)
Am Am D5 F
Am Am D5 E
Pre-Chorus (8 bars) (no vocals)
C E/B A G F E (x2)
Chorus (8 bars)
F Am F E (x2)
Outro (4 bars)
Am Am D5 D5
End on Am
The lead line in the outro
Is roughly
D-15b-15b-15b—15-13-12---------
A----------------------13-13s15
The bassline follows the chords,
But I suggest that during the
Verses etc you play:
Cm Cm F# Ab
A-3-----3------------
E-------------2-----4
I.e., the F# is below the C

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official AUTEURS tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
