Subject: TAB: On the road again - Canned Heat
"On the road again" from Canned Heat I think, has no guitars in it (this is just
from memory). Off the top of my head, I thought it will be fun to try
and tab the harmonica bits - and here they are.
They sound pretty good to me but they aren't 100% correct
Title: On The Road Again
Artist: Canned Heat
Album: "Boogie with Canned Heat" (1967)
Intro: (well this is on a guitar - also that sound like an electric
razor is going in the background)
E-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------12------
B-----------------------------------------------------------------12------------------------
G------------------------------------------------12-----------------------------------------
D--------------------------------12---------------------------------------------------------
A-----------------12------------------------------------------------------------------------
E----12-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then try this..
E-----------------------------------------------------------------------------5--------
B------------------------------------------------------------------7b8r7--------------
G---7---7---7---7---7---7---7/2----2--------7---7---7----7--------------------7--
D---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
where 7/2 means slide from fret 7 down to fret 2 & 7b8r7 means play fret 7,
bend to tone of fret 8 and then release back to tone of fret 7.
this bit can be used at the end of some of the lyrics (call it riff #3)
E------------------------------------5----------------------------------------------------
B----------------------7b8r7------------------------------------------------------------
G--------7-----7---------------------------7---------------------------------------------
D-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lyrics: (please correct them if there some weird ones as this is off the top of my
head)
Well my soul started crying but I'm out on the road again
On the road again (play riff #3 over this line)
Well my soul started crying but I'm out on the road again
On the road again (again play riff #3 over this line)
I ain't got no woman just to call my special friend (now play riff#3)
You know the first time I travelled out in the rain and snow
In the rain and snow (play riff #3 over this line)
You know the first time I travelled out in the rain and snow
In the rain and snow (play riff #3 over this line)
I didn't have no ????? not even no place to go (now play riff #3)
And my dear mama left me when I was quite young
When I was quite young (play riff #3 over this line)
And my dear mama left me when I was quite young
When I was quite young (Play riff #3 over this line)
She said "Lord have mercy on my wicked son" (now play riff #3)
Little solo:
E--------5---7---9---10---13b14--/-8---------5---7---9---10---13b14--/--8---------
B--8~~------------------------------------8~~--------------------------------------8~~--
G-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8~~ means let the note vibrate
13b14 / 8 means to play fret 13, bend the note to the tone of fret
14, then keeping the tone of fret 14, slide down to fret 8

Don't you cry no more (play riff #3 over this line)
Take ???? mama please don't you cry no more

Cause it's soon one morning down the road I'm gone (now play riff #3)
But I ain't going down that long and lonesome road
Al by myself (play riff #3 over this)
But I ain't going down that long and lonesome road

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official CANNED HEAT tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
