CLASH - "death or glory" Tablature
Official CLASH Tablature & Sheet Music »
From: Ben Weiss <weis0010@gold.tc.umn.edu>
Subject: CRD (need LYR help): Clash, "Death or Glory"
Well, the chords were easy enough to figure out, but there's this
half-spoken part between the second and third verses to which I can't make
head or tail of the lyrics. Anyone have them?
I've put the chord changes in the chorus on the beat, but they're
actually slightly off. If you listen to the song it should be easy enough
to figure out where they go.
Not being British, I've substituted "boy" for "yob" in verse 2.

DEATH OR GLORY
The Clash
INTRO (quiet/acoustic): D A G D D A G D
(then loud/electric): G D A D G D A D
D A
Now every cheap hood strikes a bargain with the world
G D A
And ends up making payments on a sofa or a girl
D A
Love and hate tattooed across the knuckles of his hands
G D A
Hands that slap his kids around 'cause they don't understand how
G D A D
CHORUS: Death or glory becomes just another story
G D A D
Death or glory becomes just another story
Now every gimmick-hungry boy digging gold from rock-n-roll
Grabs the mike to tell us he'll die before he's sold
But I believe in this and it's been tested by research
He who fucks nuns will later join the church
CHORUS
BRIDGE: I think the chords are just D A G D, but does anyone have the
lyrics?
CHORUS
In every dingy basement on every dingy street
Every dragging handclap over every dragging beat
It's just the beat of time, the beat that must go on
If you've been trying for years, we already heard your song
CHORUS
D A G D (throughout)
BRIDGE: We're gonna march a long way, we're gonna travel a long time
We're gonna travel over mountains, we're gonna travel over seas
We're gonna fight you brother, we're gonna fight 'til you lose
We're gonna raise trouble, we're gonna raise hell
We're gonna fight you brother, we're gonna raise hell
CHORUS
Repeat verse & chorus riffs, end on D

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official CLASH tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
