Dave Matthews Band
tabbed by Moonsoon3@aol.com
there have been a bunch of tabs on this song that i've found floating around,
and each seems to have something wrong with it. I believe this is the correct
way to play it, based on seeing dmb live and watching dave's hands.
INTRO:
(mostly, it's a random arpeggio. This is based on Live at Luther College)
Am Bm Em D*
|--------------|---------|-------3~--|-(0~)----------------|
|-----1~-------|-----3~--|-------0~--|--3-3p0-0---3-3p0-0--|
|--------2-----|---------|-------0~--|--0-0---0---0-0---0--|
|---2------2---|---4-----|----(2)----|--4-----4---4-----4--|
|-0----------0-|-2-------|---2-------|--5-----5---5-----5--|
|--------------|---------|-0---------|---------------------|
VERSE:
these chords are variations of the Am-Bm-Em-D*. the top strings play a G5,
and the lower strings play the root of the implied chord: A, B, E, D. the way
to do this is to have your ring finger and pinky on the G and B strings. for the first chord,
mute and fret the E string on 5 with your pointer finger. Second chord: fret with middle finger,
mute A and D strings with pointer finger. Third chord: fret A on 7, and mute D string, with
middle finger, use first finger to mute E string. Fourth chord: Fret A and mute D with
first finger, mute E with middle finger. For all of these, the high e string should
be muted by any of your fingers coming across to the lower strings.
|----x--|----x--|----x--|----x--|
|----8--|----8--|----8--|----8--|
|----7--|----7--|----7--|----7--|
|----x--|----x--|----x--|----x--|
|----x--|----x--|-7--7--|-5--5--|
|-5--5--|-7--7--|-------|-------|
Come and see, i swear by now I'm playing time, against my troubles, oh,
I'm coming slow but speeding
Do you wish for a dance and while I'm in the front,
my play on time is won,
oh but the difficulty is coming, here
CHORUS:
|G|D|C|C| There are a million ways to play this. I do:
G D C C
--x---x----x-------
--x---x----x-------
--4-/-11---9---9---
--x---x----x---x---
--2-/-9----7---7---
--3-/-10---8---8---
I will go in this way, and find my own way out
I won't ask you to stay, oh but i'm coming to much more
VERSE:
me, all at once the ghosts come back, reeling in you now
oh, what if they came down crushing?
used to be, you and me play for all of the lonliness
that nobody notices now
oh, begging slow i'm coming here....only waiting
i wanted to play, i wanted to stay, i wanted to love you
and only this time, and only tomorrow leads my way
i'm coming waltzing back and pushing into your head, please
CHORUS:
I wouldn't pass this by, oh i wouldn't take more than i need
what sort of man rolls by? i would bring him water
why won't you ever be glad, it melts into wonder,
i came in praying for you
why won't you run into rain and play
let the tears splash all over you.
SOLOS
OUTRO:
Dave's outro solo is a variation/improv around these chord formations:
--10--8--7--5--5-----------------------------
--8---8--8--8--7-----------------------------
--7---7--7--7--7-----------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
song ends on Em.
This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official DAVE MATTHEWS BAND tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
