"Dream On" by Depeche Mode
Words and music by Martin Gore
Tabbed by Matt Williams
This song is surprisingly easy to play once you set it
up right. Drop the low E
string to D and place a capo on the first fret.
The main riff is played like this (keeping in mind
that "1" is still the first
fret, but it is played open because of the capo)
E|-----------------------------|
B|.---------------------------.|
G|-----------------------------|
D|----1-4-1-1------1-4-1-1-----|
A|.--4-----4--4---4-----4--4--.|
D|-----------4-1----------4-1--|
This repeats throughout the song, it's basically a
cyclic alternate-picking
riff that is quite easy and fluid oncee you get the
hang of it. Listen to the
song for the meter and rythm. I just keep my middle
finger of my left hand
planted on the 4th fret of the 5th string and I use my
ring finger for the
fretting on strings 4 and 6.
Here is the bridge part:
E|----------------|
B|----------------|
G|----1--1---1--1-|
D|---1--1---1--1--|
A|----------------|
D|--1------3------|
And the bit before Dave sings "mmm mmm"
E|---------------------|
B|---------------------|
G|---------------------|
D|--------4----------4-|
A|-----1-4--------1-4--|
D|--1-4--------1-4-----|
As always, check the song for rythm and meter.

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official DEPECHE MODE tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
