New Orleans is a Dying Whore
by Down
from the album II
Transcribed by Matthew Writt
One of the most rockin songs on the album!
Fuck you, I play rhythm. no solo. so sorry.
Tuning: BEADGB
Main/Intro riff:
*F#5
A: --------------------------|----------x-4-x-4---4
E: 4-4-4-4--2p0-0h2-3^p0-0h2-|-4-4-4-4--x-2-x-2-0h2
B: 2-2-2-2-------------------|-2-2-2-2-------------
There is definitely some wah on this riff. I think one
guitar plays it w/o wah at the same time. It just doesn't
quite sound right w/o the wah (right Ford??). I finally
got my crybaby working and the riff sounds much better
with it.
*During the verses, the 2nd half of the above riff is
simply the F#5 chord with a 1/4 step bend. One guitar
will hit random pinch harmonics while the other bends
the F#5 chord. Just play around w/ the harmonics.
Chorus: This one hell of a ball-busting riff!
@ @
A: -----4^---4^-2-1
E: --0h2--0h2---2-1
B: 2------2--------
@: These notes are pinch harmonics the first 2 times
through and after that they are just hit really hard
to give 'em a tinny sound. Maybe one guitar does pinch
harmonics and the other plays the note as-is? I dunno.
Do what sounds good to you.
Solo: Fuck you, i told you i aint doin it.
The rhythm part is just the Main riff w/ the C# chord
played as 8th notes instead of quarters. and the following is
played at one part...
A: -----------------x-4-x-4-2h4
E: 5--7-8--/11-10~--x-2-x-2-0h2
B: ----------------------------
Next is Ghosts Along the Mississippi!!!

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official DOWN tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
