Ordinary Day - By Great Big Sea
>From the album Play, track 1
GBS play this song without the capo, using lots of power chords. I
simplified the song a little by using a capo. If you want to play it with
power chords, transpose the chords up one step (E = F, A = B, B = C, F#m =
Gm). The strumming patterns are easy enough to pick up after hearing the
song a couple of times off the CD. Please send corrections to

ORDINARY DAY - By Great Big Sea
Capo 1
E A E A
E A E A
I've got a smile on my face, and I've got four walls around me.
E A E B
I've got the sun in the sky, all the water surrounds me, oh-ee-oh.
E A
Yeah, I'll win now, but sometimes I'll lose.
E A F#m B
I've been battered, but I never bruise, it's not so bad,
(Chorus)
E A B
And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day,
E A B
And it's all your state of mind.
E
At the end of the day,
A B E A E A
You've just got to say it's all right.
E A E A
Janie sings on the corner, what keeps her from dying?
E A E B
Let them say what they want, she won't stop trying, oh-ee-oh.
E A
She might stumble, if they push her `round.
E A F#m B
She might fall, but she'll never lie down, it's not so bad,
(Chorus)
E A E A E A
It's all right, it's all right, it's all right.
E A E A
In this beautiful life, there's always some sorrow.
E A E B
And it's a double edged knife, but there's always tomorrow, oh-ee-oh.
E A
It's up to you now if you sink or swim,
E A F#m B
Just keep the faith and your ship will come in, it's not so bad,
E A B
And I say way-hey-hey, it's just an ordinary day,
E A B
And it's all your state of mind.
E A B
At the end of the day, you've just got to say...
(Chorus)
E A
It's all right, it's all right.
E A E
`Cause I've got a smile on my face and I've got four walls around me.
This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official GREAT BIG SEA tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
