G F C D
As he rumbled out one morning in search of company
G D
He went into a tavern and a fair girl he did see
G F C D
come for one night be my wife, come along with me
G
He called for liquor of the best
D
And he made such fortune play
G
Come for a drink it will make you think
F C D
That it is our wedding day
Chorus
Well he called for a candle to light their way to bed
And when he had her in the room these words to her he said
A sovereign I will give to you for to embrace your charms
And all that night the fair young maid laid in the strangers arms
Chorus
Ah early the next morning the charlotte went his way
He looked onto the that fair young maid and onto her did say
That sovereign that I gave to you. Now do not think me strange
That sovereign that I gave to you will you give me back me change
Chorus
Well about twelve months later he rumbled out once more
And he went into the tavern where he'd often been before
He wasn't in there very long when his fair girl he did see
And she brought forth a baby three months old and placed it on his knee
Ah when he saw the baby he began to curse and swear
And he said onto that fair young maid why did you bring him here
Well he is your own kind sir she said. Do not think me strange
That sovereign that you gave to me well I give's you back your change
Chorus
This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official GREAT BIG SEA tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
