Iced Earth - Watching over me (Solo)
Album: Something Wicked this Way Comes
Key: Eb-Minor
Tabbed by: Fredrik Nilsson (onkel_nilsson@hotmail.com)
Scales used: Mostly Eb-Aeolian however the beginning and the fast
part utilizes the Db Mixolydian (same notes other position read
up on modal theory if you don't know about the 'modes' of music).
F-Locrian, Gb-Ionian Ab-Dorian are used as well however many times
(in this tab at least) it's easier to look at it as the
Eb-Minor (Eb-Aeolian) played on the bright E and the H string.
Tuning: This song is played 1/2 step down (Eb) however this tab is in
standard tuning (E). So if your playing 1/2 step down (as you should do
since the chords would be pretty awkward otherwise) play everything
one step up. My guitar was in standard tuning and I didn't bother to
tune ;)
Notation: / - slide
/p - slide and pick the note
b - bend
~ - vibrato
h/p - hammer on / pull off
¤ - don't repick keep the bend
sb - slow bend
Comments: I don't think that this tab should have that many errors
however I'm not entirely sure about the fast part it sounds quite
alright in my ears however I didn't have any "slower" plugin to
Winamp so distinguishing all the separate notes was quite a pain.
If you find any errors, have any comments, a tab request or anything
just mail me...
I don't think that he's using legato (not using picking but more
left hand techniques such as slides, hammer ons and pull offs) as
much as I do especially not on the last part of the opening
(after the pedal point lick) however I find that it's got a nice
ring to it so... whatever...
General tips: As with all learning try to get it steady before you get
it fast. Try to get the general feel of the solo and then play it without
the music at a BPM where you can (comfortably) play this piece.
Increase the tempo gradually until you can play everything (including the
fast part) perfect without any missed notes... after that try to improvise
your own solo using the scales I mentioned.
I haven't written any fingerings however (for beginners only) it is
extremely imporant that you utilize your pinky especially on the pedal
point lick.

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official ICED EARTH tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
