Subject: Jeffrey Gaines: "Hero In Me"
Hero In Me
by Jeffrey Gaines
Transcribed by James M. Lawrence (jl@student.umass.edu)
You need to tune your guitar up a little bit in order to play
along with the recording. For example, the E string needs to be
tuned somewhere between E and F.
--------------------------------------------
(intro)
(1st verse)
He's lived as long as he possibly can
given the circumstance
'cause he's protected himself from the world
he never gave it a chance
(semi-chorus)
and he says: here in my security
I've put a limit on my self-potential and my possibility
(2nd verse)
She's seen these walls and they never change
everything's in its place
her relationships so neatly arranged
down to religion and race
(semi-chorus)
and she says: here in my security
I don't make a move unless my friends approve
I do what's expected of me
(bridge)
And as I grow older
and there's so much that I do not know
I'm drawn to those who are bolder
and go where no one dare to go
(chorus)
And I sleep and I dream of the person I might have been
then I'll be free again
And I speak like someone who's been to the highest peaks
and back again
And I swear that my grass is greener than anyone's
'til I believe again
Then I wake and the dream fades away and I face the day
and I realize that there's got to be some hero in me
There's got to be some hero in me
There's got to be some hero in me
There's got to be some hero in me
(3rd verse--same as 2nd)
They've been suppressing their every desire
they do nothing on a whim
she's lost her sparkle and he's lost the fire
their future looks very dim
(semi-chorus)
And I say: here in my security
I've simply let myself go
I've developed a co-dependency
(bridge)
And as I grow older
so many places that I've never been
time's tapping my shoulder
I hope it's never too late to begin
(chorus)
--------------------------------------
Chords are:
E A D G B E
G 3 2 0 0 3 3
Am X 0 2 2 1 0
C X 3 2 0 1 0

D 2 0 0 3 2 3
Em 0 2 2 0 0 0
E A D G B E
Emdim/C# X 4 2 0 2 0
A diminished E minor over C# is just a C with the roots
raised 1/2 step.
It helps to know that this song is in 6/8 time. Each dash
is a beat.

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official JEFFREY GAINES tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
