MARILLION - "kayleigh" Tablature

"Kayleigh" from the album _The_Thieving_Magpie_
Transcribed by Shane P. Faulkner (faulkner@acsu.buffalo.edu)
A very tough song to play, unless you're Stephen Rothery. I've watched him
play this song up-close several times, and it still amazes me. If you've
never seen him up-close, I'll describe it. He holds the pick normally between
his thumb and fore finger. His middle, ring, and pinky fingers of his right
hand have long nails (almost 1/3 inch maybe) which he uses to finger pick the
high strings WHILE picking with the pick. I have tried this, but can't do it,
so I just use my fingers and thumb (no pick) for the verses. Without the long
fingernails and pick, the sound isn't as crystal clear, but what can you do?
Set delay time to about 425 milliseconds, about 3 repeats, and alot of delay in
the mix (almost 100%). Steve uses EMG single coil active pickups, Roland Jazz
Chorus 120 amps for the clean parts, TC Electronics delay units, Alesis
Quadraverb, MIDI octopus, and bunch of other stuff (no kidding). Steve
generally uses Marshall amps for solos, but in this case it sounds like a Jazz
Chorus with perhaps a Marshall pre-amp stage or Boss pedal for distortion.

The two above are repeated throughout the verses. The figures are simplified
during the parts "By the way, didn't I break your heart?" Once you get the
above fingerings down, the simplified parts are... you guessed it-simpler!!
So I won't post it here (laziness!!!)

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official MARILLION tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
