Been A Son
2 versions recorded
by Nirvana
Album: Incesticide and Nirvana
Track 4 (Inc), Track 3 (Nir)
Sub Pop/Geffen Records
Written by: Kurt Cobain
*I did this myself, no one helped me!*
Normal Tuning (G,D,A,E)
Verse:
G--------------------------
D--------------------------
A-5--5-5-3-2-0-5-5-5-3-2-0-
E-------------------------- [repeat until Chorus]
Chorus:
G-------------------------------
D----5--3-3-3-0-2-0-2-----------
A---------------------3-3-2-0---
E-3---------------------------4- [repeat until end of Chorus]
*Only play this solo if you are playing the Incesticide version. If you are
not playing
the Incesticide version, play the verse until the guitar solo ends. Also, I
am not sure
this solo is correct. If not, you can improv or raise the verse an octive
higher.
Double tempo for the solo. You can play it all pulls or hammers if you think
it sounds better.
Solo:
G------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D-----5-5-3-2-0-5-5-5-3-2-0-5-5-5-5-3-2-0--0-0-2-5-3-2-0-5-5-3-2-0-5-5-5-3-2-0-5-5-2-3-2-5-
A------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E-4-4--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Kurt didn't write this Alt. Chorus, but it sounds kind of cool.
Alt. Chorus:
G-------------------------------------
D----5--3-3-3-0-2-0-2-----------------
A---------------------3-3-2-0---------
E-4-----------------------------h6-h6-
If you have a High C 5-string bass, you can try playing a C&G power-chord
solo.
Ex: C 5 5 3 2 0
G 5 5 3 2 0....

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official NIRVANA tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
