A little heads-up before we begin:
Every "Em" EXCEPT those in the chorus has a quick, two note pick-up on it: E--|-3--2--Em...
Ok? Good.
Tuning: Standard
Intro: G C (Play 3 times)
Em F
I was sitting there watching TV
Em F
Wendy came and sat on my knee
D C
She put her finger in my ear
D C
But I pulled it out so I could hear
Em F
But the newsman on the television said
Am G
He said, "The King of Rock & Roll was dead."
D C
And in the spooky television light
Em F
She said, "Don't ever forget this night."
Chorus:
G Em
I was f***ing Wendy under the stars
F G C
The night that Elvis died
G Em
I was f***ing Wendy under the stars
F G C G C
The night that Elvis died
As we walked across the dew wet field
I never ever thought she would yield
To my young body's aching desire
For an older woman's well banked fire
By the left hand I was led
To the place that we would make our bed
And embracing in the blue moonlight
She said, "Don't ever forget this night."
Chorus
She was thirty-one, I was seventeen
I found out then what passion could mean
I thought I loved her but I didn't know how
I don't love her when I see her now
With the tape deck turned up loud
She made a young man feel strong and proud
And in the coolness of the morning light
She said, "Don't ever forget this night."
Chorus
The night that Elvis died
The night that Elvis died
The night that Elvis died</pre>
This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official ODDS tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
