PRIMUS - "Groundhog's Day" Tablature
Official PRIMUS Tablature & Sheet Music »
Groundhog's Day, off of Primus's First LP Frizzle Fry I'll start by transcirbing the Guitar-equivilent of the bass part in the first part of the song. This is not a bass tab, it is transposed to guitar music: I tried to notate this but it was in 6/8 time and I couldn't think of good symbols for the timing. E)-----------|-----------------------------| B)-----------|-----------------------------| G)-----------|-----------------------------| D)-----8-----|--8--X--8--8---8--X--8-8----| A)-----7-----|--7--X--7--7---7--X--7-7----| E)-----8-----|--8--X--8--8---8--X--8-8----| E)---------------------------| B)---------------------------| G)---------------------------| repeat over and over D)---8--X--8--8--6-5--7-7---| this is also for the verse A)---7--X--7--7--5-5--6-6---| I didn't take time to figure E)---8--X--8--8--6-6--7-7---| out the rest of the bass part OK, here's the REAL guitar part: The openning lead-in-to-riff thingy: E)------------------------- B)----------------------------------- G)----------------------------------- D)--2-------------------------------- A)--2----------------------3-/6----- E)--0----------12\--3-/6------------ riff: E)---------------------------------------------------- B)--------------------11--11(bend 1/2 step)--(bring back)- G)-----------------9---------------------------------- D)----------8-/10------------------------------------- A)-------7-------------------------------------------- E)-----8---------------------------------------------- E)---------------------------------------------------- B)---10(bend 1/2 step)--(bring back)-------------------- G)--------------------------------9--------------------- D)----------------------------------12-12-/13-\10-/12-- A)------------------------------------------------------ E)------------------------------------------------------ verse: E)---------------------------------------------------- B)---------------------------------------------------- G)--------10---------10--9--------------------------- D)---------------------------8----------------------- A)---10--------10------------------------------------- E)----------------------------------------------------- play twice. then, for the chorus: E)---------------------------------------------------- B)---------------------------------------------------- G)------------------------------8(bend 1/2 step)------- D)---7--X--7--5--5--X--------X----------------------- A)---7--X--7--5--5--X--------X----------------------- E)---5--X--5--3--3--X--3--5--X----------------------- then you play the main riff with a slight variation: E)---------------------------------------------------- B)--------------------11--11(bend 1/2 step)--(bring back)- G)-----------------9---------------------------------- D)----------8-/10------------------------------------- A)-------7-------------------------------------------- E)-----8---------------------------------------------- E)---------------------------------------------------- B)---10(bend 1/2 step)--(bring back)-------------------- G)--------------------------------9--------------------- D)----------------------------------12-12-/13-\10-/12-- A)------------------------------------------------------ E)------------------------------------------------------ then you play the verse the next chorus is like this: E)---------------------------------------------------- B)---------------------------------------------------- G)------------------------------8(bend 1/2 step)------- D)---7--X--7--5--5--X--------X----------------------- A)---7--X--7--5--5--X--------X----------------------- E)---5--X--5--3--3--X--3--5--X----------------------- E)---------------------------------------------------- A)---7--X--7--5--5--X--------X----------------------- E)---5--X--5--3--3--X--3--5--X----------------------- E)------------------------------12(bend 1/2 step)-------- B)---------------------------------------------------- G)---------------------------------------------------- D)---7--X--7--5--5--X--------X----------------------- A)---7--X--7--5--5--X--------X----------------------- E)---5--X--5--3--3--X--3--5--X----------------------- then you play the riff again with a different variation: E)---------------------------------------------------- B)--------------------11--11(bend 1/2 step)--(bring back)- G)-----------------9---------------------------------- D)----------8-/10------------------------------------- A)-------7-------------------------------------------- E)-----8---------------------------------------------- E)---------------------------------------------------- B)-10(bend 1/2 step)-(keep bent for next six notes)11-11-11 G)---------------------------------------------------- D)---------------------------------------------------- A)---------------------------------------------------- E)---------------------------------------------------- E)---------------------------------------------------- B)-11-11-11-10(re-bend)-10(let down)------------------ G)----------------------------------9----------------- D)------------------------------------12-12-/13-\9-/12 A)---------------------------------------------------- E)---------------------------------------------------- then you play the verse riff 4 times And thats the end of the first part. then, almost like a totally different song, it gets really fast the guitar starts out like this (this is the main riff): E)------10-10-10-14-10-----------10-10-10-14-12----- B)--/12-----------------12---/12---------------------- G)----------------------------------------------------- D)----------------------------------------------------- A)------------------------------------------------------ E)------------------------------------------------------ you play that 4 times. then, during the verse you play: E)------------------12---------------------------- B)---/12-12-12-12-----12--/12-----12-12--------- G)------------------------------12--------12------ D)-------------------------------------------12--- A)------------------------------------------------ E)------------------------------------------------ you play that three times during the verse, on the fourth time you play: E)------------------12---------10-10-10-14-12---- B)---/12-12-12-12-----12--/12-------------------- G)------------------------------------------------ D)------------------------------------------------- A)------------------------------------------------ E)------------------------------------------------ then you play the first riff in the second part 2 times then you play the verse the same way then you play the first riff in the second part 2 times, doing only half of the riff on the second time (the bass takes up the other half of it.) then you play the first riff in the second part 2 times, doing only half of the riff on the second time (the bass takes up the other half of it.) then it converts to the solo, before the solo starts, the bass does a chord thingy and the guitar plays: E)------------------------------------------------------ B)-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12- G)-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12- D)-------------------------------------------------- A)-------------------------------------------------- E)--------------------------------------------------- then you go into the solo (this was hell to figure out, and I can't even play it very well, since its at light speed. so good luck with it): E)---------------------------------------------------- B)---------------------------------------------------- G)---------------------------------------------------- D)-11-13h14-11-13h14-11-13h14-11-13h14-11-13h14-- A)---------------------------------------------------- E)---------------------------------------------------- This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP, representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are "hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the official PRIMUS tablature which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route. These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the NY Times Article. We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
