PROMISES
(Savage Garden)
Dm G
well don't you know i need a little indulgence
Dm G
listen to the hunter becoming hunted
Dm G
every day there's a million advances
Dm G
don't be too forceful you'll ruin your chances
Em D
well don't you know that time is a broken glass
C Bm
that splinters against the wall
A
but the picture is coming back now baby
Em7/B
and i want to take it all
Chorus:
C G/B Am G
don't go making all these promises you know you cannot keep
Dm G
there's a time to play a king and a time to be a thief
C G/B Am G
cause if your making all these promises you know you cannot keep
Dm G C
you know time will be the thief and your fallen king will end up alone
Dm G
so let your body move a little bit closer
Dm G
silent like the sound proceeding a cyclone
Dm G
don't you know that powerful thinking
Dm G
is a force you don't want to relinquish
well don't you know that
Em D C Bm
they say that hanging on will justify the wait
A Em7/B
but patience and elated wisdom don't share a common phrase
(Chorus)
F G
well i'm only hanging on for what goes down baby
F G
i'm floating high and my feet don't touch the ground
F G
i'd take advantage but i can't see through this charade
Em G Am G Dm
so don't you don't you go make it harder than hell
don't go making promises don't go making promises
Em G
when it comes down to the making
Am G Dm
you better be damned sure you can take it hey baby
G C G/B Am G Dm
don't go making promises don't go making promises
Em G Am G
cause if you're making all these promises you know you cannot keep
Dm G
there's a time to play a king and a time to be a theif
Em G Am G
cause if your making all these promises you know you cannot keep
Dm G
you know time will be the thief and your fallen king will end up
Em G Am G

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official SAVAGE GARDEN tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
