Ballade de Melody Nelson ( Serge Gainsbourg 1971 )
Transcribed by Jean-Marc Orliaguet

Notes : The song is extremely more complex in harmony and rythm than
it sounds.
The time signature is a mixture of 3/4, 4/4 and 5/4,
and it can be heard on the record that pieces of bars were pasted
together, which makes it even more difficult to follow with the guitar.
And the vocals ( in french ) usually start on the 2nd beat,
in syncopated time ...

Lyrics :
Ca c'est l'histoire
De Melody Nelson
Qu'a part moi-meme personne
N'a jamais pris dans ses bras
Ca vous etonne
Mais c'est comme ca
Elle avait de l'amour
Pauvre Melody Nelson
Ouais, elle en avait des tonnes
Mais ses jours etaient comptes
Quatorze automnes
Et quinze etes
Un petit animal
Que cette Melody Nelson
Une adorable garconne
Et si delicieuse enfant
Que je n'ai con-
Nue qu'un instant.
Oh! Ma Melody
Ma Melody Nelson
Aimable petite conne
Tu etais la condition
Sine qua non
De ma raison

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official SERGE GAINSBOURG tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
