You Were There - Southern Sons
Transcribed by Jess Lai 1998
(The chords are not in the same pitch as the song. The song actually has a C, F, G progression. But I could not find a couple of the chords where it starts with "Or the magic in your hands...". So I decided to start with E instead)
E a d g b e
E: 0-2-2-1-0-0
A: x-0-2-2-2-0
B: x-2-4-4-4-2
F#m: 2-4-4-2-2-2
C: x-3-2-0-1-0
D: x-x-0-3-2-3
E A B
I guess you've heard
E
I guess you know
A
In time I'd have told you
B E
But I guess I'm too slow
A
It's overly romantic
B E
But I know that it's real
A
I hope you don't mind
B E
If I say what I feel
A B
It's like I'm in somebody else's dream
A B
This could not be happening to me
Chorus:

But you were there
B E F#m
And you were everything I've never seen
A B A E
You woke me up from this long and endless sleep
A
I was alone

I opened my eyes and you were there
.

.
B E
Can I take your smile home with me

Or the magic in your hands
.
.
.
B A
I opened my eyes and no
E
I'm not alone
A
No, I'm not alone

I opened my eyes and you were there
This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official SOUTHERN SONS tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
