Josie (Bass Line) - Steely Dan
-------------------------------------
From the studio Aja record
Tabbed by James T. McKinley
THIS IS DEFINITELY APPROXIMATE
I've played it against the guitar chords and soloed over it using a
digital 8 track, but there are no doubt some nuances that have been
left out and maybe a few wrong notes (I'm mainly a guitar player
who figured it out for a bass player friend who was having difficulty)
but this seems to work OK.

Guitar + Keys Intro:
Bass comes in on last 4 chords of intro:

D--------------------11/12\--------------------------------------
A-------4--5-----------------------------------------------------
E-0-----------0--------------------------------------------------
Vocals:

Chorus:

E-0---0-/7-------------2--7---------2--7------5--0-/5-7----------
G----------------------------------------------------------------
D----------------------------------------------------------------
A--------2-3---3------2--2--2--2---------------------------------
E-0-/3-5----------2----------------------------------------------
Guitar Groove: (Play 2X)
Second Verse (same as the first basswise):
Solo Break:
G----------------------------------------------------------------
D--5--7----------5-----5--7---------5------------5--7----------5-
A----------5--7---------------5--7-----------------------5--7----
E--------------------------------------5--7----------------------
G---------11---9--11--
D------11---11--------
A---------------------
E---------------------
Basically repeat Vocal Section (solo for verse, then vocals on chorus)
but with a somewhat different beginning bass part like
G-------------------------------------------- Play 3 X
D---------------------------------11---12---- <=== then normal
A-5--4--5--4--5----------------/9---/10------ vocal bass
E----------------0--0--0----0----------------
Repeat Intro:
Outtro:
Outtro vamps out on previous themes in the bass line thus far but
just hangs on the Em7 chord, so the bass part is just a mix of the
Em7 parts, so basically mix up the beginning parts of the Guitar
Groove and Verse sections.
This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP, representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are "hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the official STEELY DAN tablature which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route. These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the NY Times Article. We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
