Here's the song "Fever Dog" from the movie Almost Famous, one of the best
rock movies ever made. It's credited to the fictional band Stillwater, but
it was written by the film's writer and director Cameron Crowe and his
wife, Nancy Wilson of Heart.
It's an easy song to play. First of all, get your drummer to play the
drumbeat from Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks." Then play the main
riff. Let the open E string ring through the whole thing:
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
-----7/9--9--9\7------------------------
-----7/9--9--9\7------------------------
-----5/7--7--7\5------------------------
-0--------------------------------------
That riff repeats almost throughout the whole song except once in a while
they break it down and play this riff. It's just a C chord to an A:
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
-10--10--10\---7-7-7-7-7----------------
-10--10--10\---5-5-5-5-5----------------
--8---8---8\---5-5-5-5-5----------------
Listen to the song to get the timing right. It's not hard.
Now for the solos. On the soundtrack album version of the song and in the
DVD music video, Russell Hammond plays two solos. However, only the second
solo appears in the film, during the San Diego performance scene. Both
start off with the B string bent up a whole step at the 10th fret, so be
ready for it.
Here's the first solo:
--10----10----------------------------------10b12-10-7--------------------
--12r10----10b12r10-8---10b11p8\-----8-10-8------------10-8-----8h10p8\---
----------------------9----------7-9------------------------9-7-----------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
And here's the second solo:
--10-----10b12-12r10-7-------7--------------------------------------------
--12r10----------------10b12---12r10-8-10b11---8--8h10p8h10p8h10p8h10p8h10
---------------------------------------------9----------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
p8h10p8h10p8h10p8h10p8h10p8h10p8-10b12p8---10b12-8---2b4-4r2-0---2/4------
-----------------------------------------9---------------------2----------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
-----3--------------
-3-5---5-3---5---5--
--------------------

That's it. Enjoy!

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official STILLWATER tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
