Musical Death - A Dirge - by Testament
Originally recorded on the album The New Order (1988)
Music by Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick
Transcribed by Mark Vignati (gs01mcv@panther.gsu.edu) with
much help from Brian Vaught (gs01bgv@panther.gsu.edu)
I'm no good at solos, so all I could do was the rhythms.
If anyone can improve this, append the solos, etc. it would
be greatly appreciated.
The time values of the notes are written above the staff.
w=whole note, h=half, q=quarter, e=eighth, etc.
An r immediately after a time value indicates a rest of
that time value.
Notes in parentheses are tied from the previous measure.

Riff one goes twice alone, then twice with solo one (Alex)
Right after the last time it goes to this connecting riff
as Alex winds up his solo:
e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e w
|----1-----0h1---1--|---1-----0h1---1--|---1-----0h1---1-|--1---|

Then comes solo two (Eric), over Riff 2:
e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e e

There is a one bar pause, then Riff two goes through again,
this time for solo three (Alex on acoustic). This pauses at
the end, just like for solo two, then it goes to solo four
(Alex) over the heavy riff (Riff 3):

|-(1)--1--1--1--2----4-|--2--2----3--------------|

Then the rhythm goes back to riff 2 for the rest of solo four.
After solo four there is a one bar rest and then riff two plays
until fade-out.
This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official TESTAMENT tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
