Wall of Voodoo was in my opinion one of the most interesting bands of the
1980's. The guitarist (Bruce Moreland, I think) now plays in acclaimed Pretty &
Twisted, with Johnette Napolitano (of Concrete Blonde fame). Stan Ridgway,
singer/songwriter extraordinaire, is an accomplished solo artist and has a new
band called Drywall. Check out their new album, I forgot the name, but I hear
it's reminiscent of Wall of Voodoo.
This song is an A-side from "Call of the West", on IRS records, released
1980-something. It is on the same album with their smash hit, "Mexican Radio".
The guitar should be played with sharp, heavy distortion over a drum-machine
sounding rhythm. Listen to the song, the beat is quite simple.
(I haven't played this in a while, so I don't remember the exact key, but the
progression can be transposed to any key, I suppose).
Strum eighth notes, medium tempo:
B B B B B B B B | G G G G G G G G | A A A A A A A A | A A A A A A A A |
B
They don't want me
G
They used to want me
A
But they don't want me
Anymore
I used to belong
Now I don't belong
It's not the same song
Anymore
We used to play games
We used to trade names
But we don't play games
Anymore
Cause' they don't want me
They used to want me
But they don't want me
Anymore
Chorus:
And now
I'm all
Alone
No one left
To (?word) (?word)
The (storm?)
And now
(?word) (?word) (?word) (?word)
(?word) (?word) (?word)
'Cause they don't want me.
Hey, I can't tell what Stan is singing in some of these places. Any answers?
My opinions are not those of LMU's and LMU's are not those of my own (thank
goodness).
This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official WALL OF VOODOO tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
