WEEZER - "butterfly" Tablature
Official WEEZER Tablature & Sheet Music »
Butterfly - By Weezer (Rivers Cuomo)
------------------------------------
As performed on their second album, Pinkerton (track 10).
Tabbed by Mark Carroll (rcarroll@axionet.com).
Okay, Weezer fans, time to get down and dirty.
Here's the chords and my own bastardization of the lyrics.
Some of this is pulled from when I saw them in concert here in
Vancouver (as in B.C., Canada). By the way, if you get a
chance to see a live show, do it. It is an incredible experience.
Anyway, on with the song.

Verse 1:
G Em C
Yesterday I went outside
D? G
With my Mother's Mason jar
Em C *
Caught a lovely butterfly
G Em C
When I woke up today
D? G
Looked in on my fairy pet
Em C *
She had withered all away
D7
No more sighing in her breast
Chorus:
G
I'm sorry for what I did
Em C
I did what my body told me to
D G
I didn't mean to do you harm
G7 C D
Every time I pin down what I think I want
G
It slips away
Em C5
And oh it slips away
Verse 2:
Smell you on my hands for days
Couldn't wash away the scent
I'm a dog and you're a bitch
I guess you're as real as me
Maybe I can live with that
To excite my fantasy
Life of chasing butterfly
Chorus
Verse 3:
G Em C
I told you that I'd return
D? G
When the robin builds his nest
Em C *
But I ain't never comin' back
End part:
G
I'm sorry
Em
I'm sorry
C5 G
I'm sorry.
That's about it, except for that little ditty where the stars are.
It goes something like this:
e-0-----2-----------:
B----3--1--0-----0--:
G-------2-----2-----:
D-------0-----------:
A-------------------:
E-------------------:

This musical interpretation has been removed due to a legal threat from Moses & Singer LLP,
representing the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and
The Music Publisher's Association of the United States (MPA).
Unfortunately, these threats are fueled by greed and being masked by a "copyright infringement." They claim tab sites are
"hurting the songwriters," but it's a known fact that the publishing companies garner most of the
revenue. Instead, they would prefer you to purchase the
official WEEZER tablature
which is an option we've always given our users. And due to the highly error-prone nature of tabs on the internet, many choose to go this route.
These companies also do not realize that tablature sites help to promote their artists.
For more information on this onslaught, you can read the
NY Times Article.
We hope one of the larger tablature sites will have the money to fight this. Until then, we urge you all to keep tabbing songs and sharing them in any way you can.
